Parish Information

St.John's Parish Church, Broadstone

Welcome to St John’s! We’re glad you’ve found our website, and hope this gives you a flavour of who we are.

St John’s Church (our full name is St John the Baptist Church) is an Anglican church at the heart of Broadstone. As a church we aim to be inclusive and serve the local community: we would hope to give anyone who comes to us a very warm welcome. We have just applied to join the Inclusive Church network, support and welcome the LGBTQIA+ community. and look forward to soon being able to offer blessings to couples in a same-sex relationship.

We stand in a middle tradition with a variety of both traditional services (including a monthly 8am BCP Eucharist) and those which suit families and children. Mostly we use Common Worship liturgies at our services, and we enjoy celebrating the different Seasons of the church calendar.

Our worship includes everything from hymns and the organ through to our new music group which plays at the All Age Service on the third Sunday of the month. We also offer a café style Breakfast Church on first Sundays at 9am, where everyone can enjoy making crafts, singing songs, exploring Bible stories and eating a wonderful breakfast as we go! We are currently exploring new activities and worship spaces we might offer for different parts of our community, including Forest Church and Café / Taize events. We also are looking at becoming an ‘Eco Church’ which promotes responsible and sustainable living.

We are delighted when people approach us to have their children baptised or want to get married, and we will do all that we can to enable those occasions to be very special ones for you. We are of course here for those sadder times too, times of bereavement or times of crisis, and hope you feel able to contact us if you need our help or services.

We try to keep the website up-to-date but it is always worth checking with the Vicar (01202 691484 revdhelenbailey@gmail.com ) or the Parish Administrator (01202  697641 admin@stjohnschurchbroadstone.org.uk) before stepping out for a particular event or to find out more about it.

We believe that the good news of the Christian faith is that every individual and all creation might flourish as we receive God’s love and care for one another. If you are thinking of joining our church or new to the area, do give us a call, and we’d be happy to visit or give you any further information you need. Take a look at our welcome leaflet (link to it) to see what else we offer throughout the week: a ramblers group, St John’s Fellowship, Sunday lunches for those who live alone, and lots more.

We hope to be able to welcome you in person soon!

With my very best wishes

Revd Helen Bailey
