Revd Gary Waldron: Assistant Curate
Hi, I'm the Reverend Gary Waldron, and I am currently serving the community of St John's through my curacy (like an apprenticeship) following my ordination as Priest in 2025.
currently serving the community of St John's through my curacy (like an apprenticeship) following my ordination as Priest in 2025.
After a long career as a Production Engineer, I felt called to ministry later in life, hoping to combine my deep appreciation for practical transformation, systems thinking, and problem-solving with a passion for helping people explore faith in Jesus Christ through reasoned thinking, spiritual formation, and pastoral care. I have a particular interest in Christian apologetics, seeking ways to defend faith in a Christian God rationally and the Creator through the lens of science.
As a professed member of the Franciscan Third Order, I live by a Rule of Life founded on Franciscan spirituality, particularly seeking to understand how these traditions resonate with those seeking meaning in today’s world. In 2019, I walked the Camino de Santiago ( an 800kM pilgrimage across Northern Spain) and I continue to find renewal through pilgrimage and long-distance walking. I am married to Sam who works as the Parish Secretary in another local church. We have two grown-up children. In my spare time, my interest in communications finds expression through amateur radio.
I am committed to making church a place of welcome, hope, and real encounter with God—for both regular worshippers and those who are just beginning to ask life’s big questions.
